London Town Hall Wedding | Mag + Angus | London Wedding Photographer | Destination Wedding Photographer | Somerset House London Wedding | London Elopement by the River Thames, Big Ben and London Eye
I recently had the absolute pleasure of joining a workshop led by the incredible Chicago/Scotland-based photographer, Melody Joy Co, as part of the Thrive Photo Conference. I specifically booked this session because I’ve noticed a growing trend among UK couples. Many are opting for intimate ceremonies in London before their grand celebrations with loved ones abroad, or they simply desire a romantic elopement amidst the enchanting backdrop of the city. Let me tell you, it was a dream come true! As a London wedding photographer and a Canadian who’s made the UK my home for the past 12 years, I simply can’t get enough of the vibrant energy of London.
Our adventure began at the slick and modern hotel The Hoxton in Holborn for a city-chic London elopement editorial. With Melody’s artistic vision and the help of her dear friend Mag, a talented stylist (follow her here), and her boyfriend Angus, the magic unfolded. Mag, our stunning “bride” for the day, looked absolutely radiant in her vintage corset from Retold Vintage, adorned with a veil from Those Were The Days Bridal and elegant Kitten Heels by Kino Kinomii.
As we wandered through the charming streets of Holborn and Covent Garden, we were met with the most picturesque backdrops for our wedding portraits. Amidst the hustle and bustle of London, we captured moments of pure joy. The iconic red double-decker buses and classic black cabs whizzing by added an extra layer of excitement to our shoot, resulting in some beautifully artistic, slightly blurry shots that truly encapsulated the editorial vibe we were going for.
Our journey continued to Somerset House, where we seized the opportunity to capture intimate moments between the newlyweds against the backdrop of this historic landmark. Somerset House sits majestically in the heart of London, which, let’s face it, is undeniably one of the the most magnificent cities in the world. And nestled right there in the centre is Somerset House, a truly exceptional wedding reception venue. The splendour, culinary delights, and impeccable service it offers are simply unparalleled. Despite being in the midst of bustling London, Somerset House boasts the spaciousness of an out-of-town venue like Blenheim Palace. While you do have the option of bringing in outside caterers, let me tell you about Spring at Somerset House—an absolute gem of a restaurant. I had the pleasure of indulging in its culinary delights during my last visit to London, and trust me when I say, the food is beyond delicious!
And oh, the River Thames! With the London Eye, Parliament, and Big Ben in the distance, it was like something out of a fairytale. The riverside provided the perfect setting for capturing the timeless romance and beauty of a London wedding, with its iconic landmarks towering amidst the cityscape.
Each location we visited was carefully chosen to showcase the undeniable charm and elegance of London, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. Cheers to love, laughter, and the timeless allure of London!
